Color In Transit: 4In 2012 a collaboration between James Jetlag, Cuttin’Class, the city of Heerlen and the state autorities of Limburg resulted in the project “Kleur Onderweg” (Color In Transit). The project contains multiple murals on at least five highway bridges. All bridges contain huge walls, most of them longer then 35 meters and all of them have a height in between 3 and 5,5 meters. The full project covers over more then 1000 square meters. All walls have been coated with a high quality anti-graffiticoating which makes it very easy to wipe off any unwanted graffiti without damaging the paintings.
This is the fourth bridge of the project and it has been the last one of James Jetlag in the first series of Color In Transit murals. Both sides of the bridge have been painted like alle the other bridges have. Two themes have been used on this location: “Coal Mining History” and “Local Nature”. Coal mining used to be the reason why people came to this region; the rich nature is one of the main reasons nowadays. The Local Nature wall shows the typical hills and one of the old “vakwerk” houses as they can be found in this region. All colors have been selected in a way to create a soft and green atmosphere – in perfect balance with the contiguous nature. Both walls are very much in contrast with each other…showing the past and the present at the same place. It’s a time machine!
